Ecology Building Society – UK Mortgage Lender
Following a Green Party conference, the Ecology Building Society was established in 1981 at Cross Hills in West Yorkshire. The society specialises in properties that offer ecological benefits in their method of construction, type of land usage and how they are inhabited. Its aims include support for sustainable communities, efficient use of energy (including sources of renewable energy), use of local building technologies, sensitive refurbishment and general encouragement of green lifestyles. It is the 57th largest building society in the UK.
The Ecology Building Society’s office is now located at Silsden, near Keighley, West Yorkshire.
Mortgage Products
Standard Variable Rate Mortgage: a variable rate mortgage where monthly repayments go up and down in line with the lender’s base rate.
Mortgage discounts are offered to savers who have had at least £500 in an Ecology Building Society savings account for more than two years, or for funding of energy conservation measures or renewable energy use, or for borrowers who have had an Ecology Building Society mortgage for more than two years.
This building society offers one of the most extensive ranges of financial products for those keen to be ecologically aware. Many of the products offer very favourable discounts if the property meets certain criteria. Furthermore, the Ecology Building Society will also lend on a lot of other ecological interests such as small woodlands and agricultural land. They also have options such as interest only mortgages for those who have already retired and a range of commercial mortgages.
